A 4-Week German Exam Prep Plan Using Redemittel and Speaking Drills

A realistic 4-week German exam preparation plan focused on Redemittel, speaking drills, presentations, and timed practice.

A good German exam study plan should not be random. In the final weeks, focus on diagnostic practice, reusable Redemittel, speaking structures, presentation practice, and timed simulations. This 4-week plan is designed for learners who need practical exam readiness, not perfect German.

Week 1: Find your weak points

Goal: identify what actually breaks under pressure. Record one short speaking answer, write one short opinion text, do one partner dialogue, give one mini-presentation, and review repeated mistakes. Create a simple weakness table: list each weakness, give an example mistake, and note the drill you will do. By the end of Week 1, you should know your top three priorities.

Week 2: Build your Redemittel pack

Goal: prepare reusable phrases for speaking and writing. Prepare phrases for starting a topic, giving an opinion, giving reasons, listing points, giving examples, discussing advantages and disadvantages, asking your partner, and concluding. Daily drill: choose five Redemittel, say one sentence with each, change the topic and repeat, save the useful phrases in Worio.

Example drill with one phrase: Ein Vorteil ist, dass Sport Stress reduziert. / Ein Vorteil ist, dass Homeoffice Zeit spart. / Ein Vorteil ist, dass öffentliche Verkehrsmittel umweltfreundlicher sind.

Week 3: Practise speaking formats

Goal: become comfortable with the actual exam tasks. For partner dialogue, use K-M-I-N (Karte, Meinung, Ideen, Nächste Schritte). For presentation, use T-M-B-F-S (Thema, Meinung, Beispiel, Folgen, Schluss). For listening, use the 3-keyword method (Topic, Opinion, Example).

  • Monday: 3 partner dialogues using K-M-I-N
  • Tuesday: 2 mini-presentations using T-M-B-F-S
  • Wednesday: listening summary drill with a partner
  • Thursday: grammar sentence frames practice
  • Friday: timed speaking simulation
  • Weekend: review errors and repeat the weakest tasks

Week 4: Exam simulation

Goal: practise under realistic timing. Do not add too much new material in the final week. Repeat what you already prepared. Run timed simulations with: 1 short dialogue, 1 presentation, 1 listening response, 1 short writing task. After each simulation, check: Did I answer the task? Did I use clear structure? Did I include my partner? Did I give examples? Did I finish clearly?

Daily 15-minute routine

  • 3 minutes: Review 5 Redemittel
  • 4 minutes: Say 4 sentence-frame examples
  • 4 minutes: Practise one exam card
  • 2 minutes: Record yourself
  • 2 minutes: Correct one mistake

Small daily practice is better than one long panic session. Avoid: collecting too many random materials, memorizing full scripts, practising only grammar worksheets, ignoring speaking timing, waiting until the final week to practise with a partner.

Use Worio as your exam phrase bank. Save Redemittel, topic words, corrected mistakes, and sentence frames. Review them in short sessions before speaking practice.
